Under floor covering

Hiya,

I was wondering if anybody could suggest what to use to make the laminate flooring more comfortable for my boys. I currently have bits of cardboard lining the floor topped with fleecy blankets to make it nice and soft on their feet. However one of my boys had an upset stomach from eating a cardboard castle and i now want to remove this covering just in case. I've read so much about what people are using to create this soft flooring. Rubber, carpet and mats being a few examples but im sure these would only end up been shredded and eaten!

We use a sheet of vinyl, which is on top of the wood floor.
When choosing vinyl try to pick one that isn't too slippery
