Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Neuter Post-op Care

Blue34

New Kit
Just looking for a bit of reassurance.

Blue had his castration on Friday, it went really well he woke up well, eating and drinking immediately. He came home around 3pm bit dazed. But by the night seemed back to his usual self. He is on cage rest but I have been letting him out for supervised intervals.

He has never been in the cage since with me, the cage is an open dog crate in a bunny proof room - he rarely spends time in it. He has free run of the flat during the day and he is in his bunny proof room when I sleep at night for about 6 hours.

I'm concerned he will be depressed at the moment and lonely. He doesnt have post op check up until Tuesday.

My plan would be to allow him back to having his full bunny proof room tomorrow just not the whole flat until Tuesday.

Would this be an advisable decision considering he is completely back to normal and the area looks fine? Or does he really have to be in a cage any longer even though it's only been a day?

Thanks.

I think your plan sounds a good one. He seems to have recovered well from the neuter and letting him just in the bunny-proof room would seem to be a good compromise.

Sending vibes for your little one.

For myself and the rescue centres I've worked with, we never put males into cages post neuter. Did the vet suggest cage rest then?
He sounds like he's recovered fine :D

Yes I explained to her his usual set up and she said no and to have cage rest but as I explained he is fully himself and just wants to be exploring!

Thank you for your reply I feel much more confident letting him go back to normal
