DIY rabbit run!

Use good quality timber of at least 50mm (square). 75mm is lovely and strong - my latest run is 75mm and it's sooo sturdy! Remember to use as many vertical struts as necessary to provide extra strength.

Mesh needs to be galvanised weld mesh rather than chicken wire, and it needs to be at least 1 x 1/2 inch or smaller. 19g or thicker (16g is thicker than 19g) is essential too. Ebay have lots of rolls which would suit, such as these below. I found it quite hard to find mesh before I looked on eBay!

The run needs to be at least 8 x 4 x 2 ft, if not bigger. :thumb:

WE made our run out of aviary panels and used ones nailed together to make panels for the roof, we attached the middle one but i can lift the 2 end ones off for cleaning :)

I worked out it would be much more expensive for me to scratchbuild a run than use something like aviary panels or renovate/extend a secondhand run. That was going off Wickes prices though! It was also cheaper for me to buy a new run in the smallest 'suitable' size (8x4x3) but it would be cheaper to build your own bigger run I think.

I'm looking at doin a rather large area- 12ft*6ft or more (could go really all out and do 20ft by 8ft :) )
Also, how do you go about making shutters for your hutch doors? :)
Thank you! :D

First you'll need to work out how you want to attach them: that was my biggest problem! Otherwise it's not too hard: for the slot-in type, cut something stiff and weatherproof to the right size and pop them in. External-grade 6mm ply is suitable, or perspex-type stuff. Someone also has a great flip-over type on here: those carpet-over-rubber doormats nailed to the top and bungee-corded on to hooks at the side when it's windy, carpet side to the buns.
