Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rabbit with neck injury/hair loss

My male bunny has recently got bald patches on the back of his neck with scabs and redness. He lives with a neutered female rabbit who is aggressive (mainly to people) and does mount him, but he's lived with her for over a year without any problems till now, so could this be bite marks or mites or something else?

Hello . Has your bunny been vaccinated in the last few days? Sometimes they can have a reaction at the vaccine site which looks like a circular red and angry patch. This happened to one of my bunnies once and the bare patch almost resembled a nasty burn :(. If not, it's quite possible that the female is mounting and biting the male, but this is less common in spayed bunnies. I've no experience of mites but someone else may be able to offer some advice. Can you get any photos of the area as it may help to identify the problem.

However, as with all bunnies health issues, I would recommend a vists to your vet if you have any concerns :thumb:.
