  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Poorly Hector-bun at Easter :(

Hector is poorly. He was running a temperature last night so we've got some baytril and Metacam. He's nomming ok and his ears are now cooler. Fingers crossed he continues to improve he can enjoy his special weekend (he always "delivers" some chocolate eggs to my God Daughter and loves the extra attention - as if he doesn't get enough!)

There's nothing obvious as to the source of any infection and it was certainly sudden. At least I'm not working at all for the next four days. :(

This is exactly what happened with Lydia yesterday. But she stopped eating too. At one point she was burning up, her temperature was so elevated. It came on very very quickly, no warning signs at all. I hope Hector recovers quickly xx

Good grief. I'd missed Lydia's thread. Just read it. I hope she's pulling through. Sending lots of nose rubs for your beautiful girl.

Whatever this is has certainly upset his tummy again (which is his weakness) but thankfully it's not stasis: just his messy ceacal stuff and a gurgly tum.

I was frightened to open the thread when I read the title...

Thank you all.

He's still not well. Food is going down ok but this is as close now to diarrhoea that I have ever seen from a rabbit. It's not constant or frequent but it really isn't pleasant or formed.

He's had some Metacam so is up and about, eating and drinking but I'm keeping a close eye in case an emergency vet trip is needed. :(

A bit of an update - better news. He's been enjoying lovely brambles, freshly picked and dried this week together with a few carrot tops. He's also just had a long drink of water rather than me trying to force fluids down yesterday. He's grooming well and his face looks more relaxed. I'm hoping his temp has gone. He's still subdued and looks a bit "sleepy" but he's certainly improved. :)
