  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Pregnant Rabbit

New Kit
Hello I have just joined the forum.
We took on a beautiful french lop which I have named Myra.
Only a few days later did I notice moving lumps in her belly...
she has been laying on her side last few days but no nesting.
Only today I gently felt her stomach and I can feel lumps but no movement??

Where did you obtain her from and did the person who owned her before say that she has been mated up ? Is she eating/drinking/pooing and weeing OK ? How old is she ?

You need to take her to your Vet as we cannot tell you what is going on re a possible pregnancy without being able to examine her.

I would call the Vet now and ask for an appointment today.

My husband rescued them from a lady and we thought they were both female. .. we sexed them anf were male and female so we rehomed the male to a close friend...
We felt moving lumps in her belly and have done for a few days and she has started sleeping on her side.

Phoned vets and they said not to bring her in as she needs to be left alone.

That is a ridiculous comment for a vet to make - I would find a rabbit-savvy vet immediately and make an urgent appointment.

So is she eating/drinking/pooing and weeing OK ?

How long is it since the Buck was with her ?

Have you provided a nest box for her ?

Assuming the doe will successfully have her babies, give her lots of hay to make a nest with. Have you no idea how old she is? If she is very young the kits may be born dead so be prepared for that. Good luck with her.
