  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Ear abcesses, excellent information from the **** vet

'Huge thank you to our vet Jenna Richardson for putting this together for us!
Ear base abscesses (EBA) are sadly a very common problem for rabbits (especially lop buns) - any rabbit that comes along to the shelter / surrendered / boarding / looking for a buddy will have a basic health check by myself - it is truly heartbreaking to have to tell owners of the problem their bun has & needs to see a vet asap
ANY lumps on your rabbits head needs investigating! - this can be extremely painful!
Feel your rabbit's ears and get familiar - if you notice any changes pls get your rabbit veterinary attention - early treatment can make all the difference
Can you help us raising awareness?
Pls share

I lost my Finley to ear disease the d1ck vet did surgery but unfortunately the dead space left filled up and put pressure on his nerves if it's caught early I believe recovery is much more successful

Very important! Grim is getting a lump under his ear, he has long term chronic pasteurella and it spreqt to his ear. He has all those symptoms so I think it's doubly important to check if you have a snuffle bun.
