  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Munch got the snip today....

Young Bun
all went well, we dropped him at the vets this morning, they rang us mid afternoon to say it went fine and that he'd not stopped eating. Think it's catching up on him now though, he's been quite placid - he's had the odd pellet but mostly not too bothered - until we waved a bit of carrot under his nose. We've got him set up indoors for the next couple of days to keep an eye on him. Done some poos and had a wee, so all good. At the moment, he's having a wander round (gingerly bless him!) and having a bit of a lick round where he's been shaved etc. Keep trying to stop him, but it looks like he's trying to clean his fur. The vet stitched him on the inside & glued the outside apparently - they know buns can chew stitches, so do it this way to avoid.

Glad the op went well.

Did you get painkillers to use at home for him, as he'll be sore for a few days?

yes, we were given Metacam and some syringes. Thought we'd be in for a fight, but he willingly took the meds this morning, licking the syringe as I gently emptied it. Nearly back to his old self too - happily munching his hay and pellets. He's a fantastic bun - loves a fuss, never been aggressive, eats anything, clean & tidy, never sprayed anywhere. He's getting a lady friend in a couple of weeks (we're all ready, seperate hutches & runs in the garage). Hope she's as good as he is....

I find that a lot of my little creatures quite like the taste of metacam and it's usually not much of a fight to get them to take it. I hope your wee boy feels better soon though it sounds like he's well on his way. :D
