Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Crispy ears (with picture). Any ideas?

Jenova

Wise Old Thumper
This is on the outside of Grim's ear and has been there for ages and ages. He's been treated for mites with both spot on, earlier in the year and most recently injections. I've also been putting antibacterial, anti-fungal cream on. he has a lot of warts on his ears and they've started to go a little crispy too.

Just wondering if anyone has seen this sort of this before or has any ideas what it could be and how to treat it.

It's on the outside though, the inside of his ears are clean apart from the odd crispy wart. :?
The vet also thought it was mites and he has three injections to have ten days apart each. He's had two so far. I think it was Ivermectin but I'll have to double check. The two injections have done nothing so far though. Do you know if it would take a while after getting rid of the mites for the crusting to go away?

Smoo always got mites when she was run down and she had them for quite a while so they were both being treated on and off throughout the last year. :(

Milly had similar, both her ears were so flakey on the outside. Went to vet - no mites. It went away on its own about a week later

This has been going on for about a year or longer. :(
He's due his last injection on Saturday and I was wondering if I could put anything on it for the dry skin?

Hmm, might be worth seeing if your vet will liaise with a specialist as its been going on so long. What tests has the vet done eg have they taken a skin sample to examine under a microscope?

No tests yet, just the mite treatments. Both rabbits have had so much going wrong, this was a minor inconvenience compared to the rest. I will just ask for more tests. They are a specialist vets, I've just been more concerned with the other things up until now so I'm sure they will be happy to examine a sample etc if I ask.

it looks fungal to me. ches piggy had something on his ears that looked quite similar. the vet took a scraping and it came back as ringworm. he had to have cream and meds aswell. might be worth having a scraping done and tested. x
