  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Eye ulcer AND uterus infection after spay

Sam and Truffs

These giants are certainly keeping on my toes. Poor Nettle's eye is still inflamed although the ulcer looks to be healing, and Willow now has a uterus infection post-spay. It wasn't her appointment but I asked the vet to have a look at her too since she was a bit off her food and I'd seen her tummy pressing. So we could now open our own pharmacy with all the medicine, syringes and needles I've got. I think we'll need to bring them back inside otherwise administering all these meds is going to be too much of a challenge.
I dread to think how much money we've spent on this pair in the few weeks we've had them. Lucky my credit card is a bit flexible anyway.
Does anyone have experience of uterus infections and how quickly they might clear up?

No experience or advice, but just wanted to send some vibes for your poorly buns! Hope they're feeling better soon xx

How can she have a uterine infection if she now has no uterus :?

Do you mean the surgical wound is infected ?

Well that's a good point! I was holding a struggling rabbit at the time so I can't remember what exactly the vet said but it had the word uterine in it. I don't have a print out either as their printer was being temperamental and I said I'd pick it up next week. She has had 3 different injections this morning. Poor bunnies.

Golly!!!! you are having a time of it - but I bet they are glad they are with you!!!

I hope so. :( I feel rather guilty that they seemed perfectly healthy before (albeit fighting) and they seem to have done nothing but have gone to the vet and been prodded since we got them.

Sending hugs and vibes your way! I'm so sorry it has all landed on your plate with them! Hoping they improve soon xXx
