  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Harli was neutered on fri. He has done really well after initial 24 hrs of lights are on but no one is home stage. He's eating, drinking and pooping. His cage and litter have been cleaned before be went in and every day since the op. however he's been chewing down there and has caused an infection only a small one they say. He's on 0.6ml of baytril once a day is that right? Im still keeping him confined to his crate which he's hating as he normally has free run of my room. Is there anything else I should be doing?

Does he have pain relief as well as baytril? Also what is in the floor of his cage? As shavings or hay/straw could irritate the wound

I would go back to the vet and ask for a course metacam for the pain,it is likely that that is the reason he opened the wound in the first place, and it can't be comfortable! Also, if you can I would replace the litter with something like care fresh and put hay in a hay rack to keep it off the floor and away from the wound :thumb:

I've bought some care fresh and given him a hay rack. Not holding out much hope for the hay rack he normally pulls them off!
