Bonding question

I am bonding my neutered male to a spayed female. Been doing the cage swap every day with the cages 4 inches apart. Been doing 30-45 minute bonding sessions 2-3 times per day. Today is the 3rd day. Never been a fight so far. The male is very comfortable around her, eats around her, flops near her, and they both groom themselves like they are mirroring each other. My question is if my female is not interested in him. He did successfully mount her the second day for about 20 seconds. After that, she runs away from him and thumps any time he goes near her? But she will lay down after a while.

Is thumping a bad sign when it comes to bonding?
