  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Wet bum

I've just been to check on Freddy and saw that he was weeing in other places other than his litter tray, and inside his shed which he has never done. Then I picked him up and his bum is soaked in wee :(
I'll get my dad to book him into the vets, but is there anything that I can do in the meantime? I know it's not good to wash rabbit so should I just leave it and make sure his run/shed is cleaned more often?

put him on lots of dry, fresh bedding ( it'll hopefully soak it up and make him more comfortable) if you have any vet bed or fleece that might help. Vibes for freddy

Thanks, I'll put lots of fleece and bedding down in his shed now.
Do you know what could be wrong?

I've just cleaned everything up and put towels/fleece down on the shed floor and my dad's going to get a vets appointment for as soon as he can :thumb:

Freddy went to the vets yesterday, I didn't go but my dad said that the vet clipped him and cleaned everything up down there, and said it could be because he's not eating the squishy poos (can't remember what they're called ) and they're getting stuck, because he's not as flexible/not got as good joints so to just keep an eye on how things go.

If he's weeing in odd places I would of asked the vet about a possible UTI or EC. Has he lost any weight? An older bun will stiffness may be unable to eat the cecals and keep themselves clean in that respect but I wouldn't expect them to be wet with urine.

He does seem to be a lot better now, I've just had a look and his bum isn't wet any more, here a pic:

There is some fur that is stuck together, but do you think it looks ok just to leave now?
