Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Need advice: Whats wrong with Trixies's paw?

Berlin

New Kit
Dear all, since this morning my bunny Trixie seems to be having some problem with her right back paw, as she will not touch the ground with it while sitting, she leaves it slightly up and sticking out of her body somehow. When she walks she slightly touches the ground with her paw and almost limps, but not really! I have examined the paw and leg, pressed along the bones, moved it, and she does not seem to feel any kind of pain, and the appearance is normal. She eats normally (a lot actually), plays with my other bunny Felix, so despite this small detail she seems pretty happy and healthy... What could be happening to her? Should I take her to the vet? This is the first time I use this Forum, so thanks a lot and greetings from Germany!

I would say yes, take her to the vet. Rabbits, being prey animals, are very good at hiding pain.

Yes, as Deelove says, prey animals rabbits instinctively hide pain so for her to be actively holding it off the ground it must hurt a lot. Best get it checked out by a vet and if there is no obvious cause get an xray done. The vet should also give you some painkillers to take home for the pain.

Dear all, thanks for the advice. I took Trixie to the vet yesterday and she said that she probably has some kind of inflammation in her leg, so she gave Trixie a shot and some medicine against inflammation that she must take everyday for one week, then I will take her back to the vet for a check up.
