How will this work?

New Kit
Hi everyone,

On march the 12th i will be bringing my little buns home (girl and boy) when they will be 8 weeks old. I'm not quite sure when I will get them neutered but it will be somewhere in the near future. I will be having the boy done first then the girl. Of course, they are bonded and i know i need to bring him/her inside when they are neutered. What is the best way to do this? Should i get them done at the same time? Can they stay together or be separated? If they are separated, will they be able to stay in the same area as not to break the bond?

Thanks guys,
I'm sorry i'm a newbie!

Welcome  Im new as well, well new ish, joined when i got Bella last year but have not been on much until the last 2 wks. I dont know any answers for you but i will be bonding Bella with a boy soon so i like to read these posts for tips. Nice to meet you ;) Lisa x

I'm not sure but I think they wil, need to be seperated till they are both neutered/spayed then they have to be kept apart after they have been done for a good few weeks then I guess they will need to be re bonded :)

i never took 2 of my own on together but last year i took on a couple of young fosters.

as soon as Gus was ready i had him neutered. he was away for part of the day but as soon as he got home i put him back in with Rosie and they were fine.

i watched to make sure she didn't show interest in his stiches but there were no problems. i think they recover better if they can be kept together.

Thanks :) Awh what a gorgeous fench lop!!!

Aw thank you, shes a little sweetie, im getting her bf on Sunday but he needs neutering. He is currently an outside bun, so he is going to continue living outside with me, ill get him neutered then after a few wks i can start bonding them. Bella is a house bunny, who will be going to live in the love shack (i am yet to purchase) in my garden with her bf once they're bonded. I've never bonded bunnies before so it is all new to me too.

But if the female isn't spayed the male can still make her pregnant upto about 8 weeks after his neuter I think it is ?

I always say it's almost pointless bringing two babies home at the same time. If they're the same sex, the hormones will probably lead to fighting. If male and female, they may mate, which would obviously be disastrous as the female is much too young to carry babies of her own safely.

If you're dead set on getting both, I'd have two separate set-ups ready and I wouldn't allow them to be too close - rabbits have been known to make babies through bars and in seconds.

However they are your rabbits - if you choose to keep them together then yes, getting done at the same time would probably be a good idea but I don't know how likely that will be to actually happen. They should definitely be separated after though in order to allow themselves to heal and their hormones to disappear completely (at around six weeks post-op). Bringing them inside is a good idea if the weather isn't too bad - taking them from one temperature extreme to another can be bad for their respiratory systems.
