Young Bun
Hi all!
My Sassy Snejanka is declining. A little over a month ago we got an official diagnosis of spinal degeneration and blown out knees. We started her on Metacam once a day and she was showing marked improvement for a few weeks. In the last week, though, I have noticed a loss in strength and control. Last night she lost all use of her left rear for a while. It was pathetic! She sat flopped over, pulling herself in circles just trying to get up. She didn't even seem to notice me when I went to get her treats, which has never ever ever happened before. (Though she did eat them when I put them in front of her!)
I confined her for a few hours and she is better this morning. But it is clear that we are going downhill. I spoke to the vet this morning and we are increasing her Metacam, and waiting to see how she does with that. From her history I expect a few days of improvement, then a return of decline.
I'm looking for tips in caring for a lame rabbit now. She is in such good spirits, always eating and happy. It is simply her body that is failing her. Those that have paralyzed or lame buns, I need a heads up for caring for her! I do already express her bladder because of other issues, and she poops on her own just fine.
Thanks!
