Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Dirty bum!

Young Bun
I have a female house rabbit, unsureof her age. After a year of litter training she has finally started to use her litter tray! I keep the litter fresh and change it almost daily although her bum, tail and feet have become very wet and she is starting to smell! I washed her bottom half over the weekend with a rabbit shampoo and towel dried her however this hasn't really helped! Any advice on how I can help keep her clean and fresh? He litter tray is full of hay so not sure what else I can do? As I said I change the litter tray regularly! Please help as I feel sorry for her! Thanks x

Sounds like she may have an urinary infection or something. Generally when Rabbits just pee they manage to stay dry, but if she has an infection then she could be dribbling throughout the day and making her fur wet.

I would suggest taking her to the vets for a check up.

Is her skin inflamed where she is wet, like under her fur? I would be careful with the rabbit shampoo as sometimes if her skin is raw from urine scald then the shampoo can irritate it more.

This shouldn't happen if you clean out the litter tray every day. I use a thick layer of newspaper under the hay. I would advise a vet check as soon as possible, as there could be an underlying health problem.

My Matilda has this! we are back ans forth to the vets, with no luck at finding a cause! we went at the begining of sept, got the meds etc, cleared up, and no its back again!
