  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Cataracts

Has anyone got experience of older rabbits suddenly developing cataracts?
Molly aged 9 developed a cataract in her left eye very quickly. I took her to the vets 14 days ago and she is being treated with Panacur in case it is EC and also got anti-biotics. I thought then (14 days ago) that her right eye also looked cloudy but the vet assured me it was fine (she shone a light into it). But I am now positive that the right eye is getting cloudier. Other than the eyes she is fine, eating, running around and as lively as normal. If this is simply age related rather than anything else is it usual for it to come on so quickly?
Thanks in advance for any info.

my mowgl went like this dad first spotted it in onc eof his eyes our vet said it wasn;t cateracts referred to specialist who said it was, he later developed it in his other eye well a month later, as long as you donlt change there surroundings they manage just fine

Thank you for your replies, been back to the vet and it seems that she does just have old age cataracts. Otherwise is fine x
