Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Male neutering in Solihull area

Hi. I have two male rabbits (brothers) and one has matured quicker than the other and needs to be castrated. Please can you recomend a good vet who is not to expensive as I live on a tight budget.
I live near Solihull and have car.
Is it normal for one to mature quicker than another when they are housed together. No sign of testes or raging hormones in brother. They are five months old.

Hi:wave:

It's inevitable they will fight, the sooner they are neutered the better otherwise it may be difficult to rebond. Especially 2 boys.

Bunnies are expensive, it's a stereotypical view they are cheap and easy pets that are perfectly happy in a cage. All a load of rubbish. It might be you need to have them both neutered at the same time to prevent problems and 2 single bunnies. If they haven't fallen out then keep them together during and after neuter, just keep an eye on them.

Not sure on Solihull, we use riversmeet vets and the closest surgery they have to you is in Tamworth. Someone will know though :)

I used the vets based at coventry rspca, it was £30 for a boy. They have done 4 of my buns and were very good. If you look on the cov rspca website the link to them is there. Let me know if you can't find it as i'm on my phone at the mo :)

If they are 5 months old you are very lucky to not have had problems already. I'd get them both neutered asap, at that age things can quickly turn serious, nips can turn into scuffles and scuffles into fights very quickly. If there has been humping and nipping/chasing then you need to get it done this week I'd say, if anything more or excessive amounts of those then I would separate.

I'd get them neutered on the same day, or separate. It will take about 4-8 weeks for the hormones to subside, sometimes longer.

I don't know about near solihull but if you're willing to travel a bit (about an hour), Jason Burgess at the Wood Veterinary Group in Gloucester is about as brilliant as rabbit vets get! People travel great distances to have their rabbits seen by him :)
