  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

never been so frightened. Sophie~Annie had blood stains down her face

Went upstairs to change litter trays and clean up, Sophie~A runs up to me with blood stains down one side of her face (She has white fur, my heart literally stopped) I panicked and screamed for Rich.
We have had a look, she has a small puncture wound by her tear duct. We are thinking a piece of hay has done it. There is no hay in there (that we can see) her eye looks clear ect and the wound has stopped bleeding. Ive called the vet and we have been advised to clean it with salty boiled water. We have an appt tomorrow. Im going to insist on antibiotics even if just for a prophylactic measure. My poor angel :(

That must have been scary. Julie once poked her eye with a toy. No blood but lots of tears and she ran around thumping before I could have a look. Hope that Sophie is okay.

thanks guys, it really scared me. We have the vets at 2.15 today. It looks the same as yesterday (hasn't got any worse). About to bathe it again with salt water. Our internet went funny last night and i couldn't log on, i was praying that the advice wasn't to take her immediately to the vets (i would never of forgiven myself). x

aww poor bunny!
I think you did the right thing by calling the vet, and it's so wonderful that you're taking her in anyway!
I hope that you can get antibiotics and that she will recover swiftly!
