  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Is it possible for a bunny to lose their sight without a vet being able to tell??

Digby is going for his tear ducts flushed on Friday, as he is rather gunky in his eye sockets :( but on his last visit, the vet examined his eyes and tested the pressure etc, and although the pressure was a fair bit lower in one eye, there was no sign of blindness. But I'm convinced he can hardly see out of one eye!! :?

And do you think it'd be a good idea to have an X-ray at the same time as his tear duct flush, in case there's something else going on in his head?? :?

Did you discuss it with your vet? They can assess vision to some extent by testing the blink reflex by moving an object towards the eye. If the problem was retinel you would need a special type of imaging to see properly and an x-ray may not show anything up. I'd have a good chat with the vet about it.

Thanks for replying, I meant the x ray to see if there was a problem with tooth roots or something in his head causing problems in his eyes...

I know my late bunny Jojo lost her sight she had cataract the vet checked her over, she had no underlying issues and she coped just fine.......it was aot easier to creep up on her and catch that's how I knew her sight deteriorated. Her eye sight was not related to her passing x
