  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

And yet again our little Oscar~D:(. Please take the time to read

Im so worried about our chap, i sound like a broken record i know. But came home from the hospital tonight, and our Little O is presenting the same way:cry:. We have given him injectable vetagesic and oral metacam (about 1 hr and 30 mins ago). I have linked all the other threads we have done about his condition as and when it happens. Does anyone have any suggestions?.

Ok as ive just typed this he has shot out of their cage and is running around, checking out the boxes that i have rearranged, just tried him with a pellet, but nothing:cry:. He is now sat in the box. He has been on his cystaid for ages now, but we keep having these 'blips'. Going to leave it 30mins and try some more veg. I really cant cope with everything going on atm:cry:

sorry to hear hes soo poorly:cry:...its soo hard looking after a poorly bun ...i hope he improves overnight, dont give up

Not sure which Vet you consult, sorry I have not read all the threads

Could you request a referral to a specialist ?

Thank you for the replies. True to form Little Oscar is fine, acting as nothing has ever been wrong:?. Oscar's vet is Jason Burgess at wood vets:D. The vet last night (who we called, i needed to check that we could give the Vetergestic and metacam at the same time) suggested that because he keeps getting these flare ups it might be worth him being on a low dose of metacam long term?.

Hmm, just reading through a couple of the threads you posted I would say it is gas related. Have you tried cutting all veg out? Does he normally scoff his pellets? I know somebody had mentioned it before but I didn't see if you had cut the veg out or not. How long do you normally wait before taking him to the vet?

My rabbit gets something similar and no one even the vets can say what it is. He does the stretching out then sitting up with no interest in anything that lasts a few hours and he seems almost asleep then all of a sudden he jumps to his feet and is totally normal. If we pick him up to take him to the vets ( done this twice) he seems to "come to" and is totally normal. both exams have shown nothing wrong and they were both very thorough and his poos and wees are totally normal.

It is normal for my rabbit to not poo or pee alot during day he seems to do it mostly overnight in his litter tray and he certainly will go for quite a few hours not eating or drinking during the day but he has always done this and its totally normal for him.

I was also wondering if it was tummy ache but when vet examined him both times tummy felt normal and sounded normal and temp normal. My bunny is now nearly 7. I am no wiser as to what it is.
