Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Uneaten Caecals and small Faecal Poos :(

I just got two harlequin buns from a rescue yesterday and when I checked on them this morning there were a lot of uneaten caecals and some very small, slightly softer round poos. I think it's only one of the buns because there are quite a lot of healthier looking poos too (but I can't tell which one).

I know that stress can cause all sorts of havoc with a buns tum but I am not sure what's the best way to combat this. I haven't given them anything new to eat except about 10 new pellets mixed in with their old food. They did have some greens and a bit of carrot yesterday, should I keep feeding veg or cut it out? Should I keep giving them grain (they're currently on a muesli mix) or try them on mostly hay??? I really don't want this to get worse. :(

I would just give them hay and water for 24 hours as long as you are 100% certain they are actually eating hay, not just sniffing and nibbling it.

Thank you!

I spent the rest of the day watching them through a crack in the door (so they couldn't see me) and I think Juniper is the poorley one. Holly has been munching her way through everything but Juniper didn't eat anything for about 3-4 hours and has quite a few caecals stuck to her feet. I almost took her to the emergency vets but thankfully she's started eating both hay and grain again, not as much as I'd like but its better than nothing.

I'll do what you suggested Jacks-Jane and keep them both on only hay from now until tomorrow. I have spoken to my vet and were headed off tomorrow morning to get her checked out just in case, but for now it looks like Juni is doing a lot better.

She is quite a tubby girl and I noticed she ate one caecal about 10 minutes after she passed it. Maybe she's finding it hard to reach...
