Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Fly Strike and prevention.

Hi everyone.

well it is that time of year when we all start thinking about the warmer weather and the fact that it brings the flies with it. As someone who has seen the affects of flystrike in the past few years (nb not my rabbits but someone elses) i thought i'd make it a topic for disscussion. It it essential to check your buns bums regularly and remove any feaces from it. Also keep the hutches and runs clean. prevention is better than cure. I used rearguard for the first time this year, although it is difficult to apply and smells awful it is veterinary recommened (but rather pricey about £20). I have heard bad things about xenex. I used beapher fly spray last year is good but have to apply weekly which is a hassle.

What does everyone else think?

Yes it's essential to give regular checkups. I would only use rearguard as a preventitive on rabbits that are at risk because they have dirty bums or incontinence.
