Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rabbits not weeing very much

Neither of my rabbits seem to have wee'd much in the last 24 hours. They are happy and active, bright eyed, warm, eating and pooing fine but just don't seem to be weeing. Their water intake has decreased but not stopped. They have a bowl and a bottle and prefer the bowl. There litter tray was soiled on Wednesday morning so I cleaned it out, I always put a little bit of soiled litter back in to keep the scent, but since then there are only 2 little patches of wee in the tray (one in each corner, they seem to each have their own corner). I'm getting worried and they are booked in to see the vet tomorrow afternoon (the earliest they can be seen).
Is there anything I can do or give them to encourage them to drink more and wee more? I've had them less than 2 weeks and have seemed totally happy and normal until this started!

Have you checked the nozzle on the water bottle if they use a bottle rather than a bowl ? The nozzle can become blocked.

Hi yes, it's working fine, I've just put another bottle on their pen as well just incase they are having difficulty. They've never seemed interested in the bottles but I'm trying everything I can think of!

You could give them a water bowl. Most Rabbits drink much more from a bowl than from a bottle.

They've got a bowl and 2 water bottles! They only had a bowl and were drinking from it no problems up until yesterday when they both seem to have slowed down. Originally I did think they wee'd rather alot, having to clean out the corners of the litter tray a few times a day but now they are definitely not weeing enough!

They have wee'd loads overnight so guess they just wanted a clean litter tray for a while lol
I took them to the vet anyway and they both had a health check and were given the all clear. She said they are both in fantastic condition, perfect weights, healthy teeth, no signs of any underlying problems. :D
