  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Another wildie neutered . . in recovery at present . .

parsnipbun

Wise Old Thumper
Peasgood Nonsuch went for his castration earlier today.

As he was not hand reared and came to human by accident at about 5-6 months old he is very scatty still . .

When we first arrived at the surgery his heart was racing so the vet gave him his 'hypno' whilst my partner held him and then settled down with him inside his jacket whilst it took effect . . so that he was with familiar smells (of our other rabbits)

After 15 mins the vet checked his heart etc again to ensure he was settled enough to go through with a GA . .

and then did him asap.

He was back home as soon as he came round and could travel, as he finds other animals and strange environments very upsetting.

he is now recovering in our living room in a crate of hay that has smells of other buns he knows, in a dark warm place . .

We are hoping he recovers well and quickly

JUst thought I would share this for others who may be in similar situations thinking whether to neuter wilds . .
We did the same procedure with Pippin our hand-reared wildie.

just have the little girlie wildie Harebell to do - which will be pretty hard on us all . .

and then the vet is suggesting we do Parsley :shock:
