  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

sneezing due to nose damage

New Kit
We rescued Bunnykins from an irresponsible owner who let him roam the street for days till the cats got him - he had blood and skin hanging off his nose. Vet said there can be long term damage. He has regualr sneezing fits, and since we have had him ( 2 months) he has had 2 nose infections treated with Baytril. Is there anything that can be done for him? Would I still be able to put him through castration - as he has a little female waiting for him. I am trying to make an appointment with a rabbit savvy vet to get a second opinion, as I wont castrate him unless I am confident ( worried about him bursting internal stitches via his sneezing fits ) . Otherwise he seems healthy and lives in the house with our 4 dogs - has masses of time outside his indoor hutch.his nose is OK now, but gets raggedy and I then pick bits off ( discharge dried ?)left nostril

Sounds as though he needs a more thorough investigation *within* his nasal passages. He may have an abscess there. I think your best bet would be to get him seen by a Rabbit Savvy Vet ASAP to try to see what more can be done regarding his nose problem, ie some more detailed diagnostics, before deciding what to do re his neutering.

Good Luck
