  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Mite treatment?

Does anyone know what the paste stuff is called that you get from the vets for the treatment of mite infections? Dilbert looks to have them again, need to find a new hay supplier i think...

The Beaphar spot on which you can buy cheaply from P@H is fine, the active ingredient is Ivermectin.

I've used xeno 450 (it's about £18 from vet uk for 6 pipettes I think) and it's the same active ingredient as the Beaphar one (ivermectin).

Is Dilbert ok health-wise? As I've read that mites are usually present in small numbers on most/all bunnies but they tend to get over-run with them when they're not feeling 100%.

Yeah, he seems his usual self, eating/pooing fine, eyes look fine etc We took him to the vet a couple of months ago and she check him over etc and said she thought he seemed healthy enough.

Yeah, the Xeno 450 is what you would probably get prescribed at the vets, so fine to buy it off Vet UK as long as bun is ok otherwise.
