  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

concerned about fur loss

Young Bun
I know it's the season for bun buns all over the country to be losing their lovely thick winter coats but the rate at which Quinn is losing his is alarming.
I can't do so much as kiss and cuddle him without coming away with a face-full of fur!!! Now he is a lionhead X and is fairly fluffy...
However, I stroke him and great big clumps are coming out -- this has been for the past month or so.
Now, the fur does seem to be dead as it's not as shiny as the rest and is grey in colour (he is a ginge, white and black bun) is there anything to do as I'm grooming him every day but he's starting to get narked with me now and it's not getting any better?
This is my first summer with him, so forgive my not knowing if this is something really obvious.
Might also be worth noting he has no bald patches or anything like that, and I have parted the fur to check for mites, to no avail.

Mine don't seem to have gone through a big moult yet this year, but last year Peter was pretty bad and ended up with a few bald patches. Pleased to say it all grew back nicely, but it did take a few months until he looked respectable again.
