Apple branches

I have been given lots of apple tree prunings from a tree that I know hasn't been treated with any nasties - yay! I have searched the forum and have learned that I don't need to dry them, just a quick scrub to get the green stuff off which is fine but I still have a couple of questions if I may.

1. Some of the branches have the beginnings of flower buds on - should I remove these or are they ok to leave on?

2. Some of the branches are quite long and thick, maybe 3 inches in diameter and 12 inches long - is it ok to give these whole or should I cut them into smaller 'chunks'?

Thanks in advance :D

Beginning of buds are fine. I know the ones Fluffers sells have a few buds on. Ditto the size. Fluffers' Bouncer has a heeuge stick ;)
