  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bald Spot.

Maddy-Hazel

Warren Scout
Hello there, I have something of a mystery and I was hoping some people could help me out. Hazel and Fiver and going through a moult and Hazel developed a bald spot on her forehead. At first I just assumed it was odd moulting or overzealous grooming from Fiver. The fur had just started to grow back when today I discovered that the patch is almost bald again. It's still fuzzy, but completely pink. There's not trauma to the skin, and Hazel and Fiver have never fought, so I'm guessing it's just more strange moulting and/or overzealous grooming. I'm not really worried per se, as both are eating, drinking and pooping normally. They even occasionally jump into bed with us at night, so no lack of energy. I'm more just confused as to why it's happened twice now. Thanks in advance.

my daughters bun Coco has a bald patch at the nape of his neck on the lefthand side when he moults. No idea why. Vet says its not mites- it doesn't look like scar tissue either- its just pink. You can't see it much when he's sat down but shows clearly when he bends his head. He's had it for the couple of years she's had him and doesn't seem to be a problem.
It could be over grooming though in your case as the forehead is a place where the other bunny would lick?

Skin scrape for Cheyletiella mites or simply a course of Ivermectin might rule this out as a cause and identify it as something behavioural instead.
