Kynoch vets?

hiya. i was just wondering what peoples experiences with Kynoch vets have been like when it comes to bunnies? i had a vet near me (not kynoch) but wasn't too pleased with their understanding of rabbits and i want to make sure i have a good rabbit savvy vet at the ready for next time. Are they good and is their a particular one in Berkshire that would be good?
Thanks :)

Hi Lucy , I have used both vets one in Wokingham ( which is my vets now )
And I used the vets in Harmans water ( Ivan ) what he does not know,no one would know about rabbits.

I only moved vets because my younger one is now at preschool so I can quickly pop to vets while she there. And they are very good too.

All my rabbits had Ec and they have been very informative and gentle when I had to take my kids in with me, when Wispa had it really bad, I thought she was going to die , the reception watched the kids. She okay now has a head tilt but still goes on her way. Hope this helps:wave:

I'm sure the duchess will be along soon to promote them as she works for them!

Ivan, at the harmanswater branch is particularly amazing, I have heard, but so far I myself haven't had a sick bunny to deal with to give you a first hand account of their rabbit knowledge. But they've been great with my dogs and cats over years, although don't have much knowledge for rats and ferrets in my experience so far.

Xxx

Hello Lucy.

(thank you Beckie:lol:)

We are blessed with some very bunny savvy vets in our group of 6 clinics. BUT not all the vets are excellent with bunnies and have other different specialisms like orthopaedics/cats/dogs/keyhole surgery etc.

Ivan Crotaz is the bunny whizz and does have quite an awesome reputation.

Kate Marriot is also very good and is choosing to specialise in rabbits too.

At Wokingham you have Charlotte Lewis and Nick Tremlett who are very good exotics people including but not specifically rabbits. Of the other vets some are VERY competant bunny folks and some don't do rabbits at all..

If you want to e-mail me, I can give you any more info you might like.

Harmans Water would be considered the most bunny friendly practice by most who use us.

Goodness me!

Well I think I know who you mean as some of the girls make comments, but I personally like the older man and he's a bit too young for me.:D

Obviously all the vets are lovely;).

The one I see at Wokingham sometimes see is very nice:oops: think is name is Ben?

Yeah that's the one I think! ;) How old is he? You lot make him sound like he's 18 or something?!:lol: In which case little bit too young for me too! (plus i'm married...damn!)

Anyway, I too have heard that Ivan is excellent on the grapevine

Well I would say he was 25ish . I am married and two daughters and still blush:lol: when I see him  I just cross my fingers and hope for Charlotte

I used to be a client there before Ivan became manager of that branch .
I then worked for their ex manager when he took a partner and opened his own surgery .
Ivan treated one of my rabbits when he was attacked during a bonding session at a rescue and taken there as I was on hols at the time he seemed to do a good job however as far as other rodents go no way would I use Kynochs -my main gripe with the Harman's water branch is there receptionists are lacking in knowledge which I feel necessary to do the job properly.

How long ago are you talking about with your experiences of Kynoch Vets? When was your last personal poor experience with them if you don't mind me asking? Ivan has been Head Vet at HW for at least 4 years so I guess it must be prior to that.

I would be happy to recommend any of the exotics vets to anyone with any small furry.

I agree that receptionisits play a key role in the client's confidence in a pratice, which is why it's nice when you get a good solid team who have a good basic knowledge. I don't think it's fair to expect all receptionists to have a good clinical knowledge of all animals but they do need to know the important information and if they don't know, at least know who to ask.

No the experiences were within last couple of years.
I don't expect receptionists to have any clinical knowledge unless they are qualified VNs -in fact I know how wrong it is for reception to even try to diagnose or suggest treatment -I for one would have been terminated by my vet boss if I'd done so .
My complaints are concerning breed recognition -for example that a French Lop is classed as a large rabbit for speying price purposes and a friend who used Harman's Water for her rats picking them up after castration being told one had some issues but no one knowing which one -and the reception booking her appointments not realising she had different varieties or who was who with the it's a rat attitude .
They are small things but make a big impression especially when you have worked doing the same job.
