  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

If you rabbit has eyes like this - take it to the vet!!

This is Hawthorn yesterday (today they are worse:() It may look like an eye infection or irritation but it is MYXI!

Just thought it was worth posting as I am hearing of others who have had it start like this this year. Note the tiny wrinkle of fur indicating start of bump on nose. but might not nitice if he was not short haired grey/silver.

Oh, bless his heart!

I don't think I'd realise it was something so serious (I had no idea what Cloud's bump was!) so I hope this picture will come in handy for anyone who's also not sure what the signs are.

Hawthorn looks like he's really enjoying his munchies there which can only be a good thing!

Bless him, he looks alright at the moment but i know how quickly that changes :( It might to helpful for people to post myxi pics if it's not too upsetting. I have a blurry photo of my Bernards eye when she got myxi.

May be mods could think of setting up a permanent section/ thread which has images of buns with various illnesses?

I know it sounds awful but it could be very very helpful to see other buns with symptoms of myxi or head tilt etc

I think thats a great idea Parsnipbun. Kind of a 'what to look out for' thread. I think it would be really useful for people.

Agreed! I have pictures of both Jess's head tilt and Cloud's nodule that I don't mind sharing. :)

I absolutely agree, even like the dribble patch from a dental bun. Good idea:)

Tones of vibes to you and Hawthorn.

Poor Hawthorn :( Vibes for an excellant recovery

Sorry to hear your bun has mixi :( What is the treatment for mixi for a vacinnated bun please? xxx

Depends what symptoms they have & how severe

Suki had a manky eye,& a lump on her nose & side so was treated with baytril (antibiotic), fulm-wotsit-eye-cream & metacam (painkiller)

Alistair had swollen genitals, but no other lumps - & really thick gunky eyes & laboured breathing, so stronger antibiotics, eye cream, nebuliser, pain relief

Suki & Alistair were both vaccinated & continued to be bright & active. Alistair died a year ago on Thursday. Suki survived.

Spice had no outside signs - just sudden laboured breathing (that came on within a couple of hours) & then bleeding from the mouth - the nodule was in her throat so was pts
