  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Unable to groom herself properly

Hey all!

Due to Sookies dental problems, she is unable to groom the bottom of her back, its beginning to get flaky skin there. Vet has confirmed its not mites etc.

Does anyone have the same problem? If so, how do you get rid of mud/dead skin etc off? Im going to attempt to brush her tonight but it looks like 'cradle cap'....what babies get!

Vet doesnt reckon it is as its only a small patch right in the middle of her back. Ill keep an eye on it though, they did say if I was worried that they would take a skin scrape when she goes in for her operation on her teeth. So many issues with poor Sookie just now, a bit down about it all at the moment.

Aw, bless her. I just read your other thread. I so hope the operation helps change her life for the better.

Summer used to get dermatitis right there when the weather was hot. She was run down, which caused the mild infection, which was why I asked. If Sookie could cope with it, maybe cooled boiled water bathing on the area?
