  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi, My bunny Snowy has been to the vets again his appetite has decreased a little but his pooing has decreased alot.
Everytime the vet examines him he has always got a tender spot at the back of his stomach, the vet doesn't know what it is and they are not willing to investigate it. She says if it is a kidney stone there is nothing they can do but give painkillers.
I suspect he has megacolon anyway and I am wandering whether the tender spot is part of this problem.
Has anyone had a similar problem with their bunny?
Thanks in advance.

I've not experienced kidney stones with rabbits but I wonder if it is something that could be picked up on an X ray?

Lots of vibes,

Hi, The problem with xrays they have to be put under anasetic, that is risky on a sick rabbit unless I can find a vet that can do a xray without the anasetic.

Poor little bun :( Is the vet very experienced with rabbits? Have you considered seeing if there's a more rabbit savvy vet you can go to?

The vet seemed to know a bit about rabbits and explained everything but I don't know whether they deal with alot of rabbits because everytime I go there I only see cats and dogs in the waiting room I have never seen a rabbit in the 2 mths I been going.

Unfortunately there are no rabbit savvys around in my area.
