The pet fish appreciation thread

Crunchie

Warren Veteran
I thought I'd start a thread on fish as there doesn't seem to be a fish thread here yet.

I love my goldfish but boy are they messy:lol: I have three at the moment and although they are currently living in a tank I'm having a pond made next year that they'll go to live in instead.

This is Russ he was a tiny wee bub when I got him but he's grown into a very lovely guy at around 7" long.

Rosie I seen in a pet shop and thought she was the most beutiful fish I had seen. Here she is when I first got her, she would have been lucky to have been pushing 2" then.

Here she is now all grown up, she has a lovely long tail and is around 8" now too

This is wee Ruggles when he was a baby, aside from the goldies I bred myself he was possibly the smallest goldie I've had. He was just over an inch when I got him and had lovely colours.

Now he's lost most of his gold colour. He's a bit smaller than my other two at 5"

I haven't many photos of him online but here's my weather loach Wiggles.

I got him when I was at nursery school 22 years ago. It's possible he is actually older than me.

So can we see other peoples lovely fishies, I have a few tropical fish just now in a wee tank but they're hard to photograph.

I don't have any good photos of the indoor fish (I have 'a few' living indoors).

I need to search out some better ones of the pond fishes, this pic was on Photobucket already, so easy to get to.

There's in the region of 200 goldfish/carps residing here

The fork tailed fish at the bottom left is Pegasus, my oldest fish, in the region of 18 years old :love:

Lovely tanks and ponds everyone. Vicki I was thinking of having a raised pond for my fish. What kind of equipment do you need and what do you need to do in winter to protect the fish?

I NEED OSCAR PHOTOS :love::love::love::love::love:

Its the reason why my Oscar rabbit is called Oscar! After the Cichlid! I ADORE those fish

I started with 2 male sticklebacks & 10 females, but ended up with a colony. (The males do all the nest building, hatching & rearing the brood, whereas the females will canibalise the fry)

I think I saw every aspect of stickleback behaviour, & a few unexpected aspects. I was amazed that I couldn't catch them the same way twice. Goodness only knows how they communicated that information!!!

aaaaw all pics are gorgeous!!....& great to no there are loads of other fishlovers here!! ill try get pics of mine tomorrow...Well Brandons actually... a tropical fishtank that contains 2 golden gouramis, 2 dwarf gouramis, a lone cardinal tetra & a black tailed shark:love:

I dont know the equipment needed or anything because my dad built it.
we had a ground level pond, which he dug himself, he has bricked it out and put sealant or something to stop most of the water from escaping.
The fishpond should be atleast 3ft deep to protect the fish in the winter, have running water to stop freezing/ice

im sure if you look up info on how to build one etc on google something will come up. sorry im not much help! my dad does all the building here

thanks for your response Vicki, I am putting in a wee wildlife pond this year simply for frogs/toads etc but I would like a proper fish one for the fishies too.

I love my fish, so peaceful to watch!
This is my biiiig tank with clown loach, pakistani loach, 2 sexy angels fish, and some rosy and gold barbs plus some others, also there is a very pretty Gold Nugget Plec called Nugget. Its a bit overstocked at the mo as I rehomed some gourami from a friend a few weeks ago when his tank split!!

These are my fancy goldfish, I love this tank, yes I'm old enough to know better but I love Spongebob!! The calico is Bob, the red is Patrick, the red cap is Squidward, and the red and black is Mr crabs!! There is also a weather loach somewhere in there and about 6 shrimp that are all called Plankton!!
S7300700.jpg

And this is my Betta tank, they were all supposed to be female but the red one grew into a male, 2 came from a pet shop (red and blue) and have always been really funny, just skinny and small and ill looking, and the other 2 came from a specialish aquatic shop and are almost double the size! Peculiar :? (yes I know the tank is filthy!!)
