  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Any chance of some good luck vibes for my beautiful Eddie?

When mum was feeding him last night she noticed his eye didn't look right, as though it had shrunk a bit (he's had eye problems in the past with this eye, it looks as though it has a scar of some sort across it with a white line and things and we don't think he can see out of it), so he was off to the Ashleigh vets this morning. She's just rung me to say that they are keeping them both in for the day, and that Eddie is being knocked out and having his skull x-rayed later as eyeballs shrinking can be a pain response to his teeth growing upwards or something. Poor Eddie.

Though he's still fiesty as ever, and chased mum for breakfast this morning as it was late, and refused to let them look at his teeth. Oh and when the nurse tried to pick him up to let the vet look at his teeth he headed straight for her shoulder (it's his favourite place to sit on anyone! The number of times I've picked him up and ended up with a parrot bun!)

Wish I was a bit closer :( though I'm home next week for 24 hours for my teefs

He's ok, strange rabbit that he is. He was let out last night after he came round and things, though mum said he was still a bit sleepy, and that his teeth are fine, nothings shown up wrong on his x-ray, but that he has a mature cataract (we already knew this) and to keep an eye on it as the eye shrinking could be a problem with this. Been told he was a grump last night, but back to his usual cheeky monkey of a rabbit as usual today.

Wish I could see him though. Sooon

(And to amuse you - The vet tried to check his teeth when he was conscious and he hates stuff in his mouth so struggles, and she had to call a nurse in to help. Nurse picked Eddie up, so she could get a firm grip of him, Eddie climbed up her and sat there on her shoulder! Proves he can't have been feeling to bad (he loves sitting on shoulders, its where he heads when you pick him up, then down your back or onto your head depending). Don't think they expected it.)
