  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

very watery wee

Hi, I am just after a bit of advice, please. My 12 month old little Nethie has, in the last hour or so, produced rather a lot of very watery wee. Not only that, she doesn't seem herself - just keeps lying down. Not even tempted by a Fenugreek crunchie! She seemed fine this morning when I let her and her husbun out for a run. Could she just be having an off day or does it sound like there's a bit more to it? How long should I leave her before taking her to the vet. (I am fairly new to the 'Bunnyworld' so don't want to be neurotic and rushing to the vets if nothing to worry about.) Many Thanks

If she is floppy and unresponsive I would take her to the vets immediately. Infact if she is weeing way more than usual I would take her to the vet based on that alone.

just come back from vets - they think she may have cystitis. She is an outdoor bun and is bonded with her husbun, Benny. The vet has advised me to keep her indoors to monitor her which is ok as I have a small indoor cage. My concern now is that one bunny is outside and one will be inside for a few days. Does anyone know if this will affect their relationship. Also, what about when I have to put her back outside - won't the cold be too much for her? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would keep her inside until the spring if you can, since she is a bit ill.

I would definately bring her friend inside too, if they are bonded they should be together all the time or they will get sad and it will upset the bond.

Yes, Baytril & Meloxidyl. She is eating and drinking now but haven't seen any poos for a couple of hours. It's not practical to bring them both in until Spring, we just don't have a big enough cage or the room for them to run around in. The hutch outside has a cover on it, a blanket and is well sheltered by our back door. The vet said her temp was 37.5 and should be a bit higher. :?
