Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Young Bun
Hi there im new on here and just joined and im in need of some advise. I have recently baught a new rabbit and not knowing what her personality is like we havnt seen a change so far but she is quiet which is commen for a new rabbit as you know. Grooming her me and my mum have noticed that her genital area seems to be inflamed red and what looks to be crusty.. So me and my mum are confused in what it could be and we have come to the conclusion that it may be cystitis.. So im wondering could it be, Were going to take her to the vets too am just wondering what you think.. Thanks gyes.. Alice x:wave:

Hello

Sorry to hear about your bun and I'm afraid I'm no help here as not come across this in any of mine. Hope the vets can help but there's usually people on here with lots of advice and experience. Is she eating and pooing okay?

Thanks :)
Shes eating and drinking okie though.. Especialy drinking she drinks alot but shes doesnt eat too much but the women that we have baught her off said she is a fussy eater though.. So i dont know what to do. Defoo going to the vets in the morning!!!
Thanks xx

Have a read through some of the threads about diet and stuff and make sure the vets give her a good check up as its odd for buns to be fussy eaters in my experience - most of my lot act like they're starving!! Is she on a mix or pellets?

Well to be honest with you the rest of our rabbits act like they have never been fed neither lool!!! Shes eating pellets but shes doesnt eat much compaired to our rabbits but as i said we dont know wether her personality is different because we dont know what she was like before but she isnt really energetic but she is 2 years old and in a different enviroment to be honest, her coat is glossy and her eyes are bright soo... abit baffeld lol. x

I would get her checked by a vet. There are several possible causes of inflamed genitals, including some nasties such as syphilis and myxomatosis so best to get these ruled out xx

Not to sure she has Myxomatosis because they normaly pass away after a few days dont they?? The girl we baught her off was only young and said she had a few litters before could it be from this?? she had deffo been well looked after though!!

If she has been bred often syphilis is a distinct possibility.

Hopefully it is not myxi but rabbits can live for a number of weeks at least with it xx
