  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

maisie can't seem to move around properly. it is like she is trying but her back end won't move with her.

she is still eating as normal.

i went to pick her up to check her over and she couldn't run away, she kind of jerked away and it was more a hopping motion than a walk.

is this a deficiency of something? or paralysis?

i think the right hand side of her body seems bigger than the left. like it is a bit swollen??? she didn't like me touching it.

she hasn't hurt herself that i know of. the only things different lately are that they have had some of that grow your own grass, and also some dried herbs - coneflower.

i'm getting all panicky and thinking different things. could she have bloat yet still want to eat???

what does everyone think?

Hi, obviously I'd get a vet to look at her but Peter Gurney found that sometimes this can be caused by a lack of calcium. He recomends heavy doses of liquid calcium (0.5 night and morning on first day, 0.5 daily for a couple of days after). If it is this then the piggy would still have a good apetite and breathing normally.

Sending Vibes for maisie, hope she's ok.

thanks. i spent ages getting the calcium/phosporous rate right. so i hope it isn't this. i have read about it though and it does have the same symtoms :?

i'm thinking a mild bloat or something to do with her urinary tract.

off to the vets in a bit so hope she will be ok.

she is moving round more and has eaten her breakfast and i saw her poop and they are normal.

poor maisie. :(
