Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Binky's face has changed shape

My indoor male mini lop's face seems to have changed. Not only does he now have a small ruff of fur under his chin, but one side of his lower face seems to hang lower down than the other. I can't tell if he has scratched some fur so it seems that one side is higher of if he has some sort of growth which makes one side seem longer.

The vet suggests to have a feel tonight to see if there is a lump. I'll try but Binky does not always likes being touched on his face. Apart from this he is eating drinking well. Although either he or Smudge are getting over a small bout of diarahea.

Any thoughts? Sorry I can't seem to up load my picture.

Hopefully your vet will exclude an abscess or anything else. My Daisy had a drooped one side of her face and she had a lower ear infection.

Binky has now been to see the vet who is going to put him under general anasthetic to find out what is wrong as apparently he cant close one eye. He said well done for noticing. I'll know more at lunch time.

Sending lots of vibes for your bunny, my Zippy has one side of face lower than the other, it doesn't effect her eating and she is prone to getting eye infections. She has no teeth too and manages ok. I hope your bunny is ok

Sending you vibes, hopefully the vet will find out what is wrong.

One of the bunnies where I work has a wonky face, one side of her face has contracted, and she cannot open the eye on that side very well, and her nose doesn't wibble as well as it should. She is a dental bun, but the vet reckons she has somehow ended up with some nerve damage on that side of her face. She is perfectly healthy and it hardly affects her at all, other than that eye gets a bit runny at times.

Fingers crossed for little Binky.

Cerys :)

It seems that Binky has a cataract on his left eye, and a neurological disease and has been given antibiotics and a dewormer. He's still happy in himself and apart from a wonky face you wouldn't know he wasn't well.

Any other advice on how I can help him. We're going back to the vet in a week's time.
