Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

boney rabbit

New Kit
Hi, we are new to the bunny world and have recently got a dwarf lop bunny, but something does not seem right to me. she is very quiet although she is starting to move around more now, is really boney and has a really small head compared to the rest of her body, also her body is really arched, i have seen loads of pictures of other d lops and they do not look like her, they have much bigger heads and straighter bodies. At eight weeks should she feel really boney. I have two other rabbits that are incredibly different to her, i know they are different breeds but they have never been boney. She does not seem to eat very much either,my others eat all day. Any opinions would be Helpful.
socially she is really starting to bond with my other female rabbit so maybe she will bring her out of her shell a bit

When was she weaned?
What are you feeding her?
What are her poos like?

I was convinced I'd already asked the same questions ?....then thought I must be going mad!!
I had...on the rabbit chat section....phew!

Yes...same question again....as per Jane above....when was she weaned and what are her poos like....how is she eating etc??

not sure when she was weaned, she is eating supa rabbit excel junior and fresh hay, not sure who's poo is who's but seem ok, husband thinks he saw some runny poo yesterday but not noticed any today.

Okay well you need to monitor her droppings to make sure she is actually doing some. Can you sit her in a litter tray with some litter in it and a nice big heap of hay and see if she provides you with any?
Runny poo in a baby rabbit of 8 wks is a big cause for concern and should always prompt a vet visit or atleast a phonecall. Mucoid enteritis is a severe form of gastric stasis that tends to affect young buns who are recently weaned and gone through the stress of moving to their new homes, new diet etc. Dehydration can be a killer - so you need to also make sure she is drinking from her bowl/bottle - I would provide both to be on the safe side.
