Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

How do give eye drops

BeatrixPotter

Mama Doe
I am picking up Mopsys medicine today and it comes in an eye drop form. I have never had to give eye drops to a bun before. Any one have any tips? I dont want to stress her out.

Firstly, be calm yourself. Take some deep breaths and always be calm.

With mine I sit on the top step of the stairs (the way my legs then bend is the perfect angle for my body and my bunnies to sit, but that's probably just me).

I sit them facing away from me and give them some strokes.

When they are settled I place my thumb just above the eye and gently move the skin back to expose the top of the eye (this just means they can't close it), and then follow the instructions for how to put it in (for the ones I have had it has either been place one drop in the eye or place a length of the cream along the eye).

That can be evolved in a variety of ways and to be done by two people. I would suggest experimenting on ways to hold her that work and that you can pull the lid of the eye back on so that you know how best to hold her, before you try and give her anything.

And a treat after wouldn't go amiss either :D
