  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

apart from a n infection, leukeimia or lymphatic cancer what can cause lymph glands in rabbits to be swollen? chelseas (11yrs) have been up over a week now vets think she is fighting some kind of virus there is no infection present but after 1 week the front ones had gone down and the back ones had come up.. we are monitoring it with the vet she has been off and on her food tho seems currently (touch wood) to be getting a bit better if they dont go down by next check up in a few days will be looking at blood tests (trying not to put her through anythign extra at moment due to age) x

Well don't know about rabbits but in humans lymph glands go up and down for all sorts of reasons. Even a low-grade viral infection can initiate an immune response in this way. Infection from bacteria can do the same, and you've alread mentioned the other possibilities. It could depend on which lymph glands? In humans different areas of the body are supplied by a different part of the lymphatic system draining to different nodes and glands, so sometimes the response is from a localised problem, and sometimes from somewhere else that is draining to that gland. :?
I think bloods would be a good idea when bunny is ready for them.
