cleaning rabbit and kitts

jakey

New Kit
hi the kitts are now 3 weeks old and i was wondering if i could pput kitts in a box with mum to clean out their hutch please get bk and let me no thanks jake

I cleaned out Mandys accidental litter out after 8 days because it was realy dirty. I put the babies in a box with some of the straw( what they are sleeping in). Make a deep hole like a dounut with the woodshavings put straw around put the some of the original bedding at the bottom of the hole put the babies back in and cover them up with the rest of it. how is the mum with you? I always put a bunch of hay to distract her take the babies out and clean it as fast as you can. Are they walking around the nest yet? You should be alright. Let us know on how you get on.

mum is ok and babies have started to venture a little ashould i put mum in with them or just babies thanks

i would say it will be fine to put them in a box and give the hutch a clean, they will be out the nest now anyway so its fine to clean them, just be sure to put lots of soft hay in for their bedding. when i cleaned my kits for the first time i let mum have a half hour on her own with some nice veg but i would see what other ppl say about it if your not sure how she would react to being away

I would always clean the hutch normally even while they have babies, I just leave the nest box alone for a couple of weeks (unless its really dirty...I don't remember when I cleaned it out for Aroma's previous litter but it was before they came out of the nest because Aroma was pushing dirty sawdust into it:shock: That's not healthy for the little ones.
For this litter I replaced the whole nest when they were 3 weeks.
