Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Lumps in fur

New Kit
I have six rabbits as a result of a ferile rabbit getting at the doe. Anyway as they have grow fights have starting...I have five hutches all joined via ducting...yup i need them snipped. However one of them a about a month ago became reclusive, i noticed one of his hind led stayed up with some very rough nobbles on the surface of the skin. This was about six weeks ago. The leg seems to have healed but the lumps have not. I think they might be scabs from previous fights but im not sure. I m also not sure if its a mite burying in. Ive segregated him and he seems happy. I have photos but cannot post.... i think. Any thoughts, is there a cream i can buy and apply. As you can image i had not planned for breeding and my vets bugget has run dry. They get a good life running around the garden, but i cannot reintegrate the poor one...Help!!

It sounds like it could be old bite wounds but it's impossible to be sure without seeing it and mites is certainly a possibility. Alot of vets now do free Bunny checkups with a nurse so it may be worth phoning to see if yours do. Bear in mind that she may still have to refer you to the vet for treament and obviously there will be a charge for that.

Hello,
I think if I was you I'd take my rabbit to the vets - better to be on the safe side! Are all your rabbits together in the hutches?

The injured one is segragated, the rest are together. I am trying to find a good home for some of them but its not easy. If i keep them then i know i will have to get them snipped to quieten them down...two of the four males have not been done yet. (two females have). The injured one seems fine but i feel has been beaten into submission by the rest. I tried to put one of the others in with hime for company but it nearly turned into a blood bath! I will monitor him to see if the lumps heal, if not then i will check with the vet. I do have pictures if someone wants to take a look and advise??
Regards
Martin
