Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Excessive UrinationU/D She's gone

Hi - we have a rabbit staying here for a few weeks and have noticed she is excessively weeing and cant put her right back foot down, she has also become quite lethargic over the last couple of days and is going off her food but her poo is full of mucus. She is booked in to see our vet later this afternoon but just wondered on anyone elses thoughts as to what it could be. She has already had a course of baytril from her own vet for it and that's it so far, no tests etc. I'm thinking either a bad urine infection or possible diabetes and am praying it's not the start of renal failure.

It sounds like it could be renal failure, possibly linked to EC.
The mucussy stools don't sound very positive either, it's a sign of inflammation or infection in the gut...could even be enteritis.

Is she drinking lots too or urinating on her legs?

She's just constantly wet underneath Sooz, no noticeable increase in drinking though. Vet has taken some bloods and a stool sample, and put a catheter in to draw off some urine, she is just on baytril over the weekend and we'll get results Monday.

When I have had buns with Cystitis the Baytril usually produces a result within 2-4 days....so you will probably have your test results back before any noticeable improvement.

Some probiotics, if she hasn't already had any, will help too.

Good luck.

I remember reading on RR that someone found out that their bunny was excessively weeing as a way of coping with pain... can't remember who it was, posibly bunnymadhouse or carolandgregory.

Hope the bun gets better soon, sorry can't be of more help :(

Sad news I'm afraid. It was renal failure and the owners have just called me to let me know she sadly peacefully passed away this morning:( Binky free Penny

Such sad news. Only just seen this thread - it was Gregory who was drinking due to pain. Sounds like this was something more sinister though unfortunately. Binky free little one x
