  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Does moulting make a bun feel unwell?

Sugarbunny

Angel has begun to moult heavily, and she seems a bit out of sorts. She's usually really bouncy, but she seems a bit subdued and is eating a bit less? Could the moulting be responsible - there doesn't seem to be any other problems with her?
Thanks!

When my Archie moults his digestion gets really sluggish from all the fur he ingests - hes nearly gone into stasis last year and again this morning. Make sure Angel has lots and lots of hay and water is very important too it keeps things hydrated inside.

I now feed the moulting buns a pineapple enzyme tablet from Holland & Barratts and I'm guaranteed that more hair gets passed when they're on those - better out than in!!

I find that Blue is ALWAYS moulting!!!! No matter how much I groom him it seems to carry on!
He looks quite funny with his 'tide mark'.

 one of mine was quieter than usual last weekend (mine are both moulting at the moment ) so I increased the fluid intake by adding a bit of pineapple to warm water, gave a bromelain tablet got him moving around a bit and tummy rubs. He was back to normal self after a day or so.
