  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

HELP - !! EC - Will my bunny go blind?

Buddy

Young Bun
My rabbit has EC (Encephalitozoon Cuniculi). Can anyone advise me if he will eventually go blind as the white marks in his eyes are getting bigger. Thanks.

Has he been treated? Treatment can halt further damage but it won't necessarily mend the damage that has already happened.

If it looks like a third eyelid it is; a cataract certainly doesn't look and/or can't be mistaken for like a third eyelid, as a cataract only effects the pupuil.

To the OP; yes, if the cataract grows your rabbit can go blind; but it may never grow anymore, or it might fill the pupil by the end of the week. A blind rabbit is certainly nothing to worry about as rabbits rely very little on their eyesight in the first place.

 if your bun "IS" blind dont worry...
we had a rescue bun that was blind, and he had no trouble doing rabbit things!
he was an indoor bun and would binky alot around the room:lol:
i hope your bun isnt and it is the third eyelid but blindness is not a problem with buns.
hope your bun gets well soon
