  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Baffled... any ideas?

I had a baby bun admitted to the hospital today... now I can't believe this, this is the second case this week. Someone's cat either brings a baby bun in or their dog digs up a nest. The people then take the tiny kits and hand rear them... feeding on lettuce and dog milk and yes...... they survive  A tiny baby was brought in today, and has been living in a bedroom with a 5 year old, being constantly handled and fed lettuce and nuts.... and he has survived.:shock::shock: for 3 weeks so far, like this?!

So I admitted the little bun this morning and put him/her in with the other 5 kits that came in this week from a similar circumstance. However he has a lump on his nose... his whole little nosey looks like a little button mushroom. As I left I asked that the vet take a look. I am concerned it could be an abscess... it didn't look like myxi adn there were no other signs on the bun of any problems.

Could a bun as little as 3 - 4 weeks old have baytril if it were an abscess? Any other ideas as to what it could be.

Yes they can have Baytril though I assume the vet would proceed with caution due to their delicate tummies. My first thoughts would be Myxi followed by an abcess/infection, foreign body or growth.
